Kualoa is managed by the sixth generation of the Judd-Morgan family who sees themselves as stewards of this sacred land. Dr. Gerrit Judd, came to Hawaii in the early 1800’s and was the first physician to visit the islands. He translated many medical journals into the Hawaiian language, thus endearing himself to King Kamehameha III. Dr. Judd purchased the Kualoa lands in 1850 from the King for $1300. A few years later, his son purchased the neighboring valleys of Hakipu’u and Ka’a’awa, making up the lands that the ranch currently occupies. The entire Kualoa ‘ohana (family) is committed to preserving the natural beauty and cultural significance for future generations of locals and visitors to enjoy. For more, see Kualoa History.
